Dear Internet,
Most of the time, I adore you. When my kids come home with common core math worksheets and I don’t know how to help them, I’m utterly grateful to you. When there’s one line of a song stuck in my head and I don’t know the rest (nor the title or artist) you come to my rescue. And Netflix! Do I need to say more, or just catch up on every single episode of Star Trek ever?
But there are times I can’t help but despise you. You who brought my kids the opportunity to say, “Hey, Mom! Watch this YouTube video!” You, who wasn’t happy enough being on a computer, but who had to be a part of every phone, TV, and every other electronic device so that people can never just disconnect from the world. You, who makes life hard for old people even though they just want to make a call, dammit! You, who makes it impossible for a kid in junior high to fit in unless she has all the social media apps even though her mom is mean and horrible and won’t let her have them because there are Bad People out there.
But you did bring me cat videos, so I guess that’s okay.

Love your point of view. The Internet can be a hassle in regards to cyberbullying, cyberterrorism, and the hacking. But, I wouldn’t change it for anything. People are connected more than ever before because of the Internet itself. I’ve even made friends online!

Haha love – hate relationship with the internet. Sometimes i hate when eveyone is just on their phones surfin the web while havin dinner…might as well eat at home alone
Very true! I really try to disconnect during those times.
I’ve often said if I had kids, I wouldn’t even let them use the internet without supervision until they got to a certain age. There’s too much weird stuff out there and too many assholes. Nice post. 🙂
Kids need to use the internet at almost all schools. Their home work is there. Some schools assign tablets to their kids.
I agree their are too problem people out ther. My daughter ran into one when she was 13 or 14. She knew the right thing to do was tell me. And she did.
It’s difficult. You just have to know your kids. The only thing I really supervised were R rated movies & being at houses with guns there.

Yes, it’s everywhere! I think it’s great that kids are learning about the technology in school, but I also wish they knew how to use an old-fashioned encyclopedia!
I agree, but we have to teach them that now. It’s obsolete technology & not as up to date.
I love the library & encyclopedia. We had several sets at home. One handed down from my grandfather from between the 2 World Wars. Just incredible! A set from the 70s identical to those I used. Luckily the internet was just starting & the kids had to go back & forth. My youngest was all internet.
I missed going to the library with them.
How neat! We were lucky enough to have a set at home that my dad won in a contest at work. My friends were so impressed!
Fortunately my kids and I still go to the library a lot. I showed my youngest the encyclopedias while she was researching for her report, and she thought they were pretty neat. But she’s a big nerd like me. 😊

I’m having computer problems today. I was forced to download Windows 10 now I have to buy Microsoft Office and Adobe because my old versions aren’t compatible.
Bummer! It does kings of suck to habe fyi pay yearly for Office, but I like Windows 10.
I haven’t had the opportunity to use it yet.
